Collaborative Divorce Coaches
Divorce Coaches are licensed, registered professionals who are specially trained in the collaborative divorce/separation process to address adjustment, conflict and emotional challenges. They work to build communication and problem solving skills between parties, for use not just in the present, but throughout the span of the family’s development. In conjunction with Collaborative lawyers, they work as a team to achieve positive, creative solutions tailored to the family in its new form. They help affirm identity, history and connection for the family and strive to best meet future needs for separating and reforming families.
Divorce Coach is the term used internationally to describe the role of this integral member of the Collaborative Process. The Okanagan Collaborative Family Law Group recognizes this international status but has customized the term to better suit the local nature for our clients and potential clients.

Divorce CoachBiography
Mary Ellen has a Masters in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia and is a certified member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.
She has been working with individuals and couples since 1985, incorporating Marshall Rosenberg’s model of nonviolent communication (also called NVC) and mediation training into her counselling practice for the last 10 years.
In the process of negotiating the often painful relationship transitions that occur in the context of divorce, her counselling fosters a way of thinking and speaking that supports understanding, emotional clarity and value based decision- making.
As a bereavement counselor with the Central Okanagan Hospice Association she also deals with issues of grief and loss around separation and divorce.
